5th Term ROAR "With Their Eyes"

- The title, “with their eyes” gives us hint of what is to come in the book
- The book does not have and author, only editors and forwarders.
- The book does not have an author because it is composed of the stories of many children that witnessed the terrorism on September 11th, 2001.
- I remember the first time I heard about what happened, I was in 2nd grade I think, I was too young to understand it, and I hardly remember it.
- The picture on the front cover exists to set the mood of the book in its entirety.

- Why doesn’t this book have an author?
- Why is the books title not capitalized?
- Is it to enforce the concept that this book was written by children?
- Was the included map in the beginning drawn by one of the students?

- The poems they write are more like stories than anything else.
-They are set up as poems, but have little to no metaphorical structure.
- I believe the two names next to the story are there because the authors are trying to look through other peoples eyes,
- Some of the stories are really short.
-Some make me feel that I am in the middle of the action, caught up with no where to go, just like them.

- Why do some of the poems have two names next to them?

- Some of the words are bolded, I think that is to emphasize sayings.
- This book has no real scheme; it’s a bunch of different stories in one.
- Many of the people were in denial.
- One lady said that when the first plane hit, she forced herself to believe it was in accident, and not terrorism.
-Then when the second one hit, she could no longer deny it, not even to herself.

- Why are some of the words bolded or italicized?
- How close is this school to the World Trade Center?
- When was the first time they blew up the World Trade Center?
- Why do some people panic when the lights go off?

-Some words are spelled wrong.
-Most of the stories have strong dialect and spell things the way they are said.
- For example, in one story, Don’t Know, is spelled “Dunno”.
-Also, there are a lot of fillers, especially “ummm”.
- They give a background of the people, before they present the story.

- Why is the picture of the young girl put in the book?
- Why isn’t everyone else’s picture included?

More of people encounters of first being afraid, the denial, then finally acceptance.

- When people get really scared, they start to deny the obvious.
- People fail to realize that denying the truth does not make it disappear.
- Sooner or later, it has to be faced.
- The people in this book realize that, sooner that later.

- In terms of psychology, why is this the case?
-Why do people blatantly deny what is scaring them?
-Is it a method of calming down?
- What were the previous minutes like?

All of the other sections I the book express people’s terror and denial, but the ending tends to express the frustration that they started to feel.
